Bonfire Hill Extreme Vineyards Red Blend, 2018
An intriguing red blend with red summer fruits, spring fynbos flowers, Indian spice and just a hint of toasty oak. Decadent and rich with almost creamy tannins. Raspberries, blackberries, ripe plum, pepper and leather. Well balanced with just the tiniest prod of refreshing acid.
Meet the maker: Bruce Jack Wines
Region: Goudini & Overberg Highlands, Western Cape – South Africa
Grape(s): Syrah (36%), Cinsault (32%), Pinotage (32%)
13.5% ABV / 750ml / Vegetarian / Vegan
Viticulture:
The vines are grown in some extreme vineyards: the Drift Estate in Overberg Highlands, where it is very cold in winter and cool in summer and the vineyards are perched perilously on the slopes of Akkedisberg, and Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards, where it is very hot and arid.
Winemaking:
Some of varieties are vinified separately, others co-fermented. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with a cold soak for two days, then four to five days at 25°C.
Malolactic fermentation took place before some ageing in stainless steel tanks, the rest in oak. The Cinsault was unoaked and the Pinotage and Syrah were aged in 70% French and 30% American oak.
